Make A Wish Foundation’s 14th Annual “Spirits, Wine and Wishes” Benefit

Make-A-Wish Foundation, a non-profit organization granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, held its Spirits, Wine and Wishes Benefit at Pier 60 this past month. Aimed at creating life-changing experiences for children and their families, providing them with hope, strength, and joy during difficult times, Make-A-Wish has granted over 500,000 wishes since its inception in 1980. In its 14th year, the event has raised over 8 million in aid. It featured dozens of curated wine, spirits and gourmet food, Coveted Corks, a VIP tasting experience, silent and live auctions, decadent desserts, champagne, dessert wines and spirits.

Ava Covington’s inspiring story of using music and her experience with openheart surgery propelled her to want to give back to others. A remarkably inspiring speech and performance was also given by Ava Covington, one of the many children who has benefited from the philanthropic organization. Ava Covington’s passion for music, particularly the cello, has been a constant in her life. After experiencing a life-threatening event, Ava’s focus shifted from athletics to music. As a wish child with Make-A-Wish New Jersey, Ava’s request was for a cello. Due to the quick response of her coach, who used a defibrillator and performed CPR, and successful open-heart surgery, Ava is now alive and well.  Ava’s experience with open-heart surgery was a turning point in her life. This experience has taught Ava the importance of cherishing every moment and has motivated her to use her talents to help others.

Her love for music has helped her to overcome adversity and has become a way for her to give back to others. Ava’s work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation has allowed her to give back to others who are going through difficult times. Ava has used her musical talents to perform at Make-A-Wish events and to help raise funds for the organization. Through her experiences, Ava has shown that even in the face of adversity, one can use their passions to make a positive impact on the world.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation’s annual Spirits, Wine, and Wishes NYC fundraising event brings together local restaurants and wineries to support the foundation’s mission of granting wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. The participation of local businesses not only supports the foundation’s fundraising efforts, but also helps to promote the local community.
