Conceptual designer, Kyungah Min, launched the high-tech KAIMIN SS20 collection during New York Fashion Week. Unveiling a commercial denim line, SLFF (pronounced ‘self’) honors transformation in the conditioned world. Albeit through exaggerated tulle and ruffles, or geometric cutouts of denim, vinyl, or leather—the innovatively inclusive KAIMIN’s “Introspective Prism” SS20 collection wildly epitomizes the cultural fractal.
Breaking through stereotypes influencing people’s perceptions of skin color, age, gender and size, the collection fractyllizes the human glimpse into a glare at the most explosive societal junctures. Take the industrial-quality 3D textile designs by Fitchwork, printed directly onto the denim. Focalized officially into the “Stratasys x KAIMIN” 3D-Print Denim Capsule Collection, the designs—laden with slits and sleek cutouts—celebrate individuality, freedom and confidence.
Even Bjork has outfitted the female-founded creations, most notably in a bespoke pink iridescent dress representing the ‘metamorphosis of a butterfly from chrysalis’. Collaborating with other outrageous icons—Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and more—the Korean-Japanese pioneer’s futuristic designs draw from urban street culture, punk, and primeval sexuality.
Experimental designs imbued with sustainable materials, Kaimin’s innovations revolutionize fashion’s regard for abstraction. She deconstructs sexuality into a surrealistic blend of edifices unforeseen to the human touch. Sigmund Freud theories, various artworks, and films such as Annihilation inform the “Introspective Prism” campaign launching the line.
Aiming to address inner fears and identity aneurysms, and to refract the variegations of self, flesh, mind and matter—all conjoin through fashionable ensembles to expose the dynamic interplays of the unrestrained persona amid inevitable circumstance. Enacting a bio-spiritual evolution of the human form, physical, spiritual and psychological transformations subsist.
