Dangerous Voice: A Poem

Dangerous Tongue

Slicing niceties into blades that scratch

away the warm red lip gloss,

melt mascara and pop rosy cheeks,

Gossip prevails.

Mirrors paint her walls, inside & out,

she scurries between switches,

eliminating facial glitches -with

Pointy Fingernails

Scissoring up well-stitched inseams and dreams

with whispers, words and index finger pointed up,

hush is demanded, contention reprimanded—

Toxic Contrails

Tempered by a melodic voice on stage

that soothes, evokes ethnic classics,

and hypnotizes like a serpent,

Alligator Scales

Outline the soft curvature of her tongue,

whose overworked papillae

resemble desert storms, and

Necessary Veils…

Masks on everyone! Realities undone,

Giraffes, elephants and bears

join the sensible circus fun,

Urban Fairytales

Spiraling out of sumptuous grapevines,

Wine transposes to blood

Splattered by chattery print—

Tabloid Fails.
